Trying to use oil paintings to capture the grandeur of the north has been a quest for thousands of artists.
Every one a different perspective.
Here is one feeble attempt
The tree and grasses in the foreground are carved acrylic modelling paste.
The whole painting was completed using alkyd oil paint.
Alkyd paint is an oil based paint that has been modified to dry quickly, some colours in 24 hours.
This allows the artist to work the paint for longer than acrylic but not as long as oil paint.
It means that the artist can add elements more quickly when building a painting.
